Human leadership

From Documentation to Evidence: How ISO/IEC 42001 Is Changing Software Documentation in AI Organizations

Room 32

11 November 2026, 17:00–17:30

As organizations develop, integrate, and use AI, software documentation is moving beyond user guides and API references. ISO/IEC 42001:2023, the management-system standard for AI, makes documentation a key part of demonstrating how AI is governed across its lifecycle.

This session explores how the standard can shape documentation in AI organizations, from system descriptions, intended use, and risk information to data and model documentation, human oversight, monitoring, and change management. We'll look at how technical writers can move from producing content to designing information that supports transparency, traceability, and accountability.

The goal is not to turn writers into compliance specialists, but to show how documentation can become a practical bridge between AI technology, governance, and the people who need to trust it.
